All
Romney wool is first inspected in New Zealand to meet our high
quality specifications and to trace its lineage back to Romney
sheep with three generations of proven pedigree.
Accepted wool then moves to Nepal where respected Nepali and Tibetan artisans
take over. The wool is first blended with a small amount of Tibetan wool to add
an even harder durability to the pile. The wool is then hand spun into yarn,
dyed using eco friendly dyes and sun dried. |

The rug is then
woven by hand on looms which can produce rugs up to 4 metres wide
and any length or shape. Once completed the rug is washed and then
the three-dimensional designs are carved into the rug.
All employment practices are closely monitored by “Care and Fair” – an
organisation committed to fair employment practices. New Zealand Romney also
adheres and advocates to a policy against the use of child labour. |
